The olive tree
Back home in Spain, my father’s house in Seville is surrounded by olive trees. On one of my most recent visits back home, I had the wish to represent the olive tree as it has lots of meaning for me and it also evoques a warm feeling of being home. Apart from this, it is such a beautiful subject to represent visually.
The twisted trunk evoques a sense of tortuous living or suffering but at the same time it is full of life and represents regeneration and hope. These ideas are very relevant to me now at this particular moment in my life and it has been a very emotional journey to create this painting.
